FOODISM 1: A Few Of My Favorite Things...

The following are all theories which I have been living out over the past month and recommend.

+ Drink 4-8 ounces of aloe vera and/or papaya and/or pineapple juice 30-60 minutes before eating for better digestion - good enzymes

+ Don't drink much liquid within 15-20 minutes of eating to aid digestion (dilutes digestive juices)

+ If you over-eat, drink some orange juice an hour or two after eating

+ Herbal Teas...get to know them and use them

+ Before taking a bite or ordering food, consider not only how good it will taste, but more importantly how will it make you feel in one hour? In the morning? *see below*

+ For crunchy finger-food snacks during movies & reading, choose something better than popcorn/snack mixes/chips like green beans/falafel patties/veggie burger patties dipped in Annie's Goddess dressing OR edamame OR eat baked veggies like sweet potatoes/yams/beets/etc either naked OR with a li'l Bragg's Amino Acids or a combo of the following: basil/rosemary/garlic/ghee/sea salt

+ Do a 3-4 day fast a couple of times a month. (I am NOT a fan of "starve yourself" fasts...I like the ones you can eat as much as you want of specific things, like my current favorite is the Senaca Indian Cleansing Diet.

+ Herbal teas...I'm serious!

+ Dry brush your skin often

+ Epsom salts and/or brown apple cider vinegar baths (shower after or risk smelling like a pickle, unless your lover likes eating pickles!)

+ When craving a snack, hula hoop. No, really.

+ These are uber healthy and I love them I would marry them if it were legal. Psyllium husks. Mate. Sweet Potatoes. Yams. Veggie burger and falafel mixes purchase in bulk. Quinoa. Annie's Goddess Dressing. Bragg's Amino Acids. Avocado. A good juicer. Salmon. Ginger. Soy yogurt-it has the good cultures! Ghee. Beets. Purple cabbage. Cucumber. Cheap champagne (it's much better on the body than cheap red wine.) Spinach/greens instead of bread to wrap around stuff (thanks to In-n-Out and Urban Forage for this tip!) Rosemary. Rose water. And most of all people to share talks & meals with!

+ Avoidthe following more-often-than-not: COffee, hydrogenated oils, fried foods, white & enriched flours, white & refined sugars, chocolate, dairy (durn that lactose intolerance!).

+ Did I mention herbal teas? What I found best is to read/learn about what each do, make a shopping list and go get them.

+ Keep a thermos of hot water with you, at home and away from home, so you keep drinking that tea!

+ If you keep healthy foods convenient to make/eat then you'll actually eat them, as opposed to most convenient foods being pretty bad for your body.

+ *1*(I'm a BIG fan of indulging, even in occasional chocolate eclairs and MickeyD's fries etc...but only you know what your body can handle well at that exact moment. Like if you have already today eaten a lotta fried foods, well then eating more would probably taste good but make you feel pretty yucky, bloated, heavy, & unsexy in an hour or two of eating. But if your tummy can handle that In-n-Out meal then go for it! BTW, my roomie's due any minute with an animal&protein style burger for me...yum...
